How to Create A Cozy Home Without Clutter

It's a Saturday morning, you wake up, take a nice hot shower, get your coffee and a book or journal, and you get to just relax for a bit. You don’t feel guilty about taking some time for yourself rather than worrying about cleaning or tidying up the house.

This is one of the feelings you can have when you have a cozy uncluttered home. Feeling relaxed and having your home be an oasis is something that we all strive for.

The key to make this happen is to find a balance between creating a cozy environment, without creating unnecessary clutter in the home to take away the coziness. This post will give you three ideas to help create the environment you’re craving.

1. Add Coziness Through Texture

When trying to create a cozy atmosphere, it’s important to keep a balance between beautiful decor pieces and refrain from adding too many things in the space to make it seem cluttered. One thing you could do is swap out items (rather than adding) more items.

One thing you could do is swap out items with soft, cozy, or natural textures such as throws in knit or cashmere, soft drapery, pillows, or faux fur elements. Swapping them out throughout different seasons is a way to keep the decorating simple. All you have to do is swap out the same items year round to give your space a new look and feel.

2. Layer In Warm, Grounding Tones

Being in nature improves our physical and cognitive health. Why not bring the feeling of nature indoors? Warm neutrals, earthy hues, and other naturally warm tones can create feelings of grounded coziness.

Consider adding these tones to your space as well as adding plants in the home to reduce stress and create coziness. Remember to swap out the same items, just for different patterns, to keep the space from becoming too cluttered.

3. Use Scents to Evoke Cozy Feelings

Have you ever walked into a house when someone was baking or cooking and the aroma just overtakes you and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? The power of scent can evoke feelings of coziness and belonging. Adding warm scents, such as amber, cedar, cinnamon, vanilla, sandalwood, and other spice-inspired scents can help create the cozy atmosphere you will not want to leave.

Creating a cozy home can be accomplished without needing to layer in a thousand extra pillows, blankets and decor. Remember that a few simple touches and swaps are all that you need for creating a home that inspires feelings of warmth and belonging.

Until next time,
