How To Tackle The Laundry Piles

Have you ever said to yourself, or had this discussion with your other mom friends: “Geez the laundry just NEVER ends!”. If you have, you aren't alone, my friend. It's just my boyfriend and I, and in a matter of a couple of days, I have a whole load ready to be washed, just from the two of us!

If you are looking for ways to either catch up on laundry, or just find a better way, then keep on reading for FIVE different ideas to try to have a rockin’ laundry system!

1. Do One Load A Day

Do you do the laundry from the entire week, from the entire family all in one day? You start off strong, fold the first, maybe two loads of laundry, and then by the 3rd and 4th load, you fizzle out; throw the clean clothes on top of the washer/dryer, folding table, or in a laundry basket, then you end up picking clean clothes from the basket throughout the whole week. Sound familiar? You know how I know this? Because I’ve been there!

Instead of leaving this huge task for once a week, try doing one load of laundry a day. One load. That’s it. Wash, dry, fold, and put it away. Breaking up a larger task into smaller chunks may make the task seem more doable.

2. Keep It Low (Maintenance)

I recently started working with a new PAM℠ (Personal Assistant for Mom) client and when we were going through the laundry checklist, we asked her things like, how did she sort her clothes, which cycles does she run, are there certain pieces of clothing that don’t go in the dryer?

Her response, was mind blowing. She said, “Everything gets washed in cold and everything can go in the dryer. If it can’t go in the dryer, I don’t buy it!”

Keeping your clothes low maintenance is a way to simplify your laundry routines making it more manageable.

3. Sort By Person

Wash each person's clothes separately rather than everyones together. This will save you on time sorting the clothes at the end. This could especially speed things up if you have your kids fold their own laundry. Take the clothes out of the dyer, dump it in a basket, and let them have at it.

If you choose to do one load of laundry a day, you could do one person’s per day, on the same day every week so you set up a routine for yourself.

If you buy low maintenance clothing, all of the clothing for that person could get washed and dried together.

Hey, you may even have less socks missing when you sort by person rather than throwing everyones together.

4. Edit Your Clothes

Please don’t stop reading after reading that headline! In my professional experience, I’ve noticed that sometimes, the clothing doesn’t end up back into dressers or closets, simply because there isn’t space for them. Everything is shoved in so tight that it gets overwhelming to try and put clean clothes away, so we then just don’t do it, and end up picking clean clothes from a laundry basket all week.

“The average person wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time”

This tells me that we only wear a small amount of the clothing we own on a regular basis. So, if you find that you aren’t putting your clothes away, it may be time to try and go through and edit your clothing. 5. Hire A Service

If the problem isn’t the amount of clothes in your closets or dressers, maybe the issue is that you just don’t have the time, or don’t want to spend the time doing the task. And there is nothing wrong with that! Time is valuable, so spending it doing things you enjoy doing is important. For that, you could hire a wash + fold service. These services usually will pick up your clothes from your house, take them back to their facilities to wash, dry and fold, and then redeliver them back to your doorstep. This is great, however, it still leaves the task of, putting everything away. You either have to hang things up still, or refold clothes to make them fit in certain drawers. Not to mention that you may lose clothing or get mixed up with someone else’s clothing.

Here’s an even better solution: you could hire All About Organizing! With our PAM℠ (Personal Assistant for Mom) services, we will do the laundry in your home for you, and make sure it gets folded and hung up in the appropriate places, taking this whole task (AND MORE) off your plate during the allotted time!
